DESCRIPTION
A World War Two period solid wood life sized head form for the calibration of flying helmets. Marked “AM” (Air Ministry) and dated 1943, this form is one of ten salvaged from Haynes & Cann, Northampton when the company closed in 2010. It has lots of lovely details including tolerance and calibration marks and has a brass plate and several stamps with the number “2”; probably the helmet size. A very scarce piece.
Comes with a plywood base with three adjustable feet which looks like a fixture mount (not shown) plus the original screws should you wish to reattach it.
Haynes & Cann, Northampton was a company that specialized in the manufacture of equipment for pilots and other flight crew including flying helmets and boots. They started trading in 1919 and closed in 2010 when they lost their Ministry of Defence contact.
