DESCRIPTION

Two tempura on prepared board paintings entitled ‘Spring flowers’ by Harold Edward Conway (1872-1949), 1928.  Both mounted in their original Rowley gilt frames and bear Marion Phipps labels to verso.  The smaller is signed with monogram and dated lower left and bears a hand written inscription “Spring Flowers Edward Conway Burford Oxford” to verso.

 

Harold Edward Conway (1872-1949) studied at the Slade School, London and the Académie Julian in Paris.  He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1915 and 1923.

 

DIMENSIONS – H: 45cm W: 38cm & H: 47cm W: 42cm including frames.

 

CONDITION

The smaller, monogramed painting has an old repair to the top right-hand corner of the frame and small amounts of gilt loss, wear and cracking to the frame consistent with its age.  The painting itself is in good condition.  The larger, unsigned painting has a small chip to the paint in the lower right-hand quarter of the painting itself.  The frame has small amounts of gilt loss, wear and cracking to the frame consistent with its age - please look very closely at the pictures as they form part of the description.
