DESCRIPTION

This very special pair of wooden heads have been hand carved, hand painted and were likely created for a carnival or fairground.  They probably date from the late 19th century and are possibly French or North American in origin.  Mounted on modern ebonized metal stands.

DIMENSIONS – H:  47cm including stands

CONDITION

They have damage and wear consistent with their age and use.  They would have been regularly painted throughout their working lives and these layers of paint are visible in areas.  Each have been made by laminating planks of wood and they are separated/cracked in places on both heads although remain solid.  The back of the gentleman’s head appears to have come off at some point and glued back on - please look very closely at the pictures as they form part of the description.
