DESCRIPTION

Discovered in Wiltshire this stunning bronze sits on a solid marble base and was commissioned by Jaguar Cars in the late 1950’s/early 1960’s to sit in one of their car showrooms.  The iconic mascot, known as “The Leaper” was designed in 1938 by Bill Rankin, a Jaguar employee, who was asked to design an appropriate mascot after Sir William Lyons (co-founder of the company) saw an after market ornament on one of his cars that he hated and said looked like “a cat being shot off a fence!”.  This is the second version of the leaper which was introduced in 1955 as it has outstretched back legs.  This is certainly a statement and conversation piece and is original (there are some copies out there).

DIMENSIONS – H:  480cm W:  900cm D:  200cm

WEIGHT – I do not know the exact weight (but it’s pretty heavy!!)

CONDITION

The bronze is in excellent condition but there are a couple of minor issues with the base.  There are numerous tiny chips around the edges and a hairline crack to one side but it remains a solid piece - please look very closely at the pictures as they form part of the description.
