DESCRIPTION

Life sized 19th century polychrome plaster bust of Ippolita Maria Sforza (1445-1488) after a marble bust attributed to Francesco Laurana (1430-1502) from around 1473.   

Ippolita Maria Sforza was an Italian noblewoman; a member of the family that ruled the Duchy of Milan from 1450 to  1535.  She was the first wife of the Duke of Calabria, who later reigned as King Alphonso II of Naples.  She was said to have been a very beautiful, intelligent and cultured woman.

CONDITION

There are a few chips of paint loss, scratches and dents here and there plus two areas of damage to her lower left hand side, one of which has been painted over - please look very closely at the pictures as they form part of the description.
