DESCRIPTION
Discovered in Oxford the exact origins of this beautiful and quality mask are not known. The holes in the mouth suggest it once contained a ring and it could have been a knocker or handle for a large door. Certainly a very expensive item when made it would have come from a very wealthy home. Later mounted on an oak plaque complete with brass loops to hang on a wall.
DIMENSIONS – H: 31cm W: 31cm D: 10cm
WEIGHT – 3kg
CONDITION
The mask is in very good condition and there are some minor varnish loss and marking to the plaque including an old screw hole in the lower right hand quarter. There is also some light damage around the edge of the wood consistent with its age - please look very closely at the pictures as they form part of the description.
